Personal, Social and Health Education
PSHE provides pupils with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their lives.
In a Healthy School:
- There is a planned programme of Personal, Social and Health Education based on the PSHE Framework that includes opportunities to explore and understand feelings
- PSHE lessons are observed as part of a monitoring process
- Staff and pupils are consulted about the programme
- Pupil's progress is assessed and achievement is recognised and rewarded
- A member of Senior Management Team oversees PSHE
- A PSHE Coordinator is in post
- There is Continuing Professional Development in PSHE (Certification for 1 teacher)
- An Sex and Relationship Education policy is in place - agreed by governors, staff and pupils and evaluated for impact
- The sex and relationships education programme is appropriate to age and development
- There are Drugs, Child Protection and Confidentiality policies in place linked to DfES guidance and evaluated for impact
- A drugs incident procedure is in place and guidance widely disseminated
- Pupils views are sought on policies
- The school is smoke-free or has a timed policy in consultation
- Appropriate outside agencies are involved in PSHE delivery and skills improvement
- There is a policy and guidelines for use with external visitors
- Protocols are in place for referral to specialist services
- Local data is used to inform activities and support
- All pupils have an input into the curriculum including disaffected and Additional Educational Needs
