Physical Activity
Pupils should be provided with a range of opportunities to be physically active. They should understand how physical activity can improve and be part of their everyday life.
In a Healthy School:
- There is a named member of staff to develop and monitor physical activity
- There is a policy on physical activity that has been developed through wide consultation, is monitored and evaluated
- There are 2 hours of structured physical activity a week within or outside the curriculum
- A range of extra-curricular activity is provided
- Pupils know they are consulted about the range of physical activities.
- Opportunities are offered to all and the school seeks to remove barriers
- A School Sports Coordinator is involved, as are other community resources
- Pupils, parents and staff are encouraged to walk or cycle safely to school using local safety guidance
- Parents are involved in planning physical activity and the school helps them to understand the benefits of it for all
- There is appropriate Continuing Professional Development for those involved
- The staff are encouraged to undertake physical activity
