Physical Activity

swimmers.Pupils should be provided with a range of opportunities to be physically active. They should understand how physical activity can improve and be part of their everyday life.

In a Healthy School:

  • There is a named member of staff to develop and monitor physical activity
  • There is a policy on physical activity that has been developed through wide consultation, is monitored and evaluated
  • There are 2 hours of structured physical activity a week within or outside the curriculum
  • A range of extra-curricular activity is provided
  • Pupils know they are consulted about the range of physical activities.
  • Opportunities are offered to all and the school seeks to remove barriers
  • A School Sports Coordinator is involved, as are other community resources
  • Pupils, parents and staff are encouraged to walk or cycle safely to school using local safety guidance
  • Parents are involved in planning physical activity and the school helps them to understand the benefits of it for all
  • There is appropriate Continuing Professional Development for those involved
  • The staff are encouraged to undertake physical activity
