Emotional Health and Well-being
Promoting positive emotional health and well-being helps pupils understand and express their feelings, build their confidence and emotional resilience and therefore their capacity to learn.
In a Healthy School:
- School leadership encourages a positive environment to enhance health and well-being
- Behavior management and rewards policies are in place
- Pupils are given the opportunity to explore feelings within planned curriculum time
- The school develops appropriate teaching and learning styles
- There is a confidential pastoral system in place for pupils and staff, which discourages stigma and discrimination
- There are explicit values underpinning positive emotional health, which are reflected in practice
- There is a clear policy on bullying which is owned, understood and implemented by the whole school community
- There is appropriate Continuing Professional Development for those with pastoral roles
- Self-esteem and confidence building through participation are encouraged
- There is a confidentiality policy in place
- Vulnerable pupils are identified and strategies exist to support them and their families
- Every pupil understands how to access support and knows about the range of services available
