  • BBC Lifeschool Sex - for 14 years onwards
    Testimonies from older teenagers about their experiences of going through puberty, attitudes to each other, peer pressure, sexuality and sex. A very good resource which should promote discussion and reflection.

  • Groping in the Dark - 15 year olds onwards
    An excellent and frank dramatization of nightclub culture, 'getting off with each other', peer pressure and HIV/AIDS. Recommended.

  • Growing Up Gay - 13 years onwards
    Two films about young people and attitudes and experiences regarding being gay. The first rather dramatic film features homophobic bullying and the second consists of conversations with young gay people.
    Well presented dramatic and will certainly hold attention with useful class activities.

    A series of programmes dealing with body changes and relationships starting with a teacher training section.
    Good information but rather laboriously presented.
    Useful for dealing with multicultural issues and diversity.

  • Johnny Condom - 13 year olds onwards and staff training
    First video gives a light hearted but explicit look at condoms and issues surrounding them, and the second video follows some training in progress and contains useful lesson ideas and strategies.

  • Living and Growing Unit 1 Key Stage 1 5 - 7 year olds
    Popular video to introduce gender, naming of body parts and individual characteristics. Lost cat leads to discussion of male/female. Cat gives birth to kittens. Differences between boys and girls leads to naming of external genitalia.

  • Living and Growing Unit 2 Key Stage2 7 to 9 year olds
    Body changes, how babies are made and childbirth. More advanced than unit 1 useful and well made but contains animation of sexual intercourse in second and third sections with a live birth in the last section.

    Widely used and well made this unit is more advanced, condoms, attitudes to sex and masturbation are all discussed.

    Inset training sessions explaining the importance of sex education in Primary School, good practice guidelines and the rationale behind the Living and Growing series. Very useful for parent and governor training sessions.

  • Real Gorgeous - Suitable for a wide age range 10-18
    Light hearted cartoon looking at body image, and pressures from the fashion industry. Wide application as an opening or closing exercise particularly with girls but boys could find it useful. Additional book useful for project work.

    Very useful video to help parents, carers and teachers talk to children about sex and deal with commonly asked questions.

  • Weird and wonderful World of Billy Ballgreedy - 13 years onwards
    An informative and explicit discussion of sex and sexuality aimed at young men. This video contains references to drug use so should be used with care. Should be used in conjunction with the pack and exercises. Strong regional accents can make it hard to understand in places.

    A straightforward and simple approach to puberty, sexuality, safe sex and masturbation. Includes dealing with unwanted advances.
