Hi, I'm Cllr Chris Chappell, and I'm one of three Labour councillors for the St.Martin's & Hinton ward on Herefordshire Council. I am 57 years old going on 20 something! I like to think that I'm laid back but I do have a serious side to me.
I have worked in Chile for the Salvation Army helping to run an orphanage and farm. It's not easy to look after some of the most disadvantaged youngsters on the continent. In those days Chile had the highest infant mortality rate in the world, with children living in some of the worst conditions imaginable. It is that experience that has influenced the rest of my life and one reason why I am delighted to give the Herefordshire Healthy Schools Partnership my backing.
+ My work for the council
I have been a councillor since 1992 serving on Hereford & Worcester County Council where I was for a time Chairman of the Council's Personnel Committee. I have served two terms on Hereford City Council and since 1997 on Herefordshire Council. I was the Cabinet Member for Economic Development in the last administration and since then as Chairman of the Community Services Scrutiny Committee.
Since 1999 I have been Chairman of the South Wye Regeneration Partnership and I am a governor at Haywood Secondary School. I am currently Chair of governors at St Martin's Primary School. The Herefordshire Healthy Schools project is very important for the community we serve not just for children but for parents & schools. The future for our children is important and I look forward to working in 'Partnership' with all those who put our children at the top of their priority list.
I will be delighted to answer any questions that members of the public might have and hope that every one will take full advantage of this new web site.
