Ask The Councillor

Councillor Chris Chappell Says: "I will be delighted to answer any questions that members of the public might have and hope that every one will take full advantage of this new web site."

Photo of chris Chappell. Hi, I'm Cllr Chris Chappell, and I'm one of three Labour councillors for the St.Martin's & Hinton ward on Herefordshire Council. I am 57 years old going on 20 something! I like to think that I'm laid back but I do have a serious side to me.

I have worked in Chile for the Salvation Army helping to run an orphanage and farm. It's not easy to look after some of the most disadvantaged youngsters on the continent. In those days Chile had the highest infant mortality rate in the world, with children living in some of the worst conditions imaginable. It is that experience that has influenced the rest of my life and one reason why I am delighted to give the Herefordshire Healthy Schools Partnership my backing.

+  My work for the council

I will be delighted to answer any questions that members of the public might have and hope that every one will take full advantage of this new web site.

Chris Chappell

Some of the questions asked of Chris in the past, along with responses.

Question:
Why aren't the council doing anything about the state of the pavements in High Town?

Answer:
The Council is currently regenerating the centre of the City and all the paving will be replaced.

Question:
Do you think tourism will be affected by all the building/construction work going on in Hereford City?

Answer:
There is a danger that tourists will be put off but there is never a good time to do this work. I hope that when it is finished that the city will look much bettter than it did and that it will attract tourists to the city.

Question:
Can anything be done about the gridlock that is Holme Lacy of an evening?!

Answer:
The problems in Holme LACY road are connected with work on the Ross Road which should be finished once ASDA in finished.

Question:
Why hasn't the skate park opened?

Answer:
The skate park is now the responsibility of the young people involved in with the Holmer RD project. They will open it when they have raised the money needed to build the park. Meantime why not visit the skate board park in Newton Farm!
